SIP trunks
Bring your own carrier or PBX — connect a SIP trunk for inbound and outbound calls, with separate outbound credentials if your provider needs them.
A SIP trunk connects Kilevel to your existing telephony — a carrier, a cloud PBX or an on-premises system — so your agents can use your numbers without moving them.
What you need from your provider
SIP server and portrequiredThe host your provider accepts calls on, for example sip.provider.com.
Username and passwordcredentialsThe trunk's authentication credentials.
Outbound server and credentialsoptionalSome providers take outbound calls on a different host or with different credentials. Set them separately when that is the case.
RegistrationoptionalEnable SIP registration if your provider expects the trunk to register, with the registration domain it gives you.
Caller ID and number format
- Username as caller ID — some providers identify the calling number by the trunk username; enable this for inbound and outbound separately if yours does.
- Leading plus — whether numbers are sent with a leading
+on outbound calls and in the caller ID. Providers differ, and a wrong format is the most common reason calls are rejected.
Receiving calls
Point your provider's inbound route for a number at the trunk, and assign the number in Kilevel to a flow. Where a provider delivers calls from fixed IP addresses rather than authenticating, those addresses must be allow-listed — contact support with your provider's IP ranges.
Tip
Test with one number end to end — inbound, outbound, caller ID shown on the other side — before moving a whole range.
